1. Are dependents limited to children living with you under a certain age? Will these children also be covered by DigitalShield?
Any individual who lives permanently in the household is covered by the policy. It does not have to be a dependent or child. This also covers you for your devices when you use them outside the home, on Wi-Fi, or while travelling.
For example, you child is doing a semester abroad, they are not living in the household, but are permanent residents of the household. They are covered, along with their personally owned devices, and will have full access to policy coverages and features.
2. Am I required to list the devices that are covered? If I buy a new device, will it still be covered even if I didn't own it at the time of purchasing DigitalShield?
All devices are covered even those purchased after the policy was signed. You are not required to provide a list of devices.
3. If I have a second home, will I need two DigitalShield policies? Will I be covered if I am connected to a network outside of my household?
DigitalShield covers you during the policy period anywhere you are , including second homes, or places outside of their primary household. There are no restrictions on territory, and you are covered under one policy.
4. If I have a home in Canada and a second one in the US, do I need to buy two policies? Does DigitalShield extend to all cross-border households?
One DigitalShield policy will cover your smart homes and cyber risk exposures at all your homes, whether in the U.S., Canada, or worldwide. You only need to buy one policy for your permanent location which allows coverage to extend to all your locations.
5. Does the pricing start at $200 CDN if in Canada and $200 USD if I'm located in the US?
Yes. Get in touch with one of our cyber experts to check your system(s) and we'll assist you throughout the process. Whether this is your home network, personal computer or a mobile device, the policy is there to respond to cyberattacks or hacking.
For example, if you rent a car while travelling and you connect your mobile device to the car to use the Bluetooth, you later find out the rental company car had malware in it which accessed all your personal information in the phone and you've been hacked.
Or your personal social account gets hacked and you can't regain access, CyberScout can analyze the situation with you, look into what needs to be done to regain access in your particular situation and will work with you to analyze any additional threats and help get things back on track.
6. Does DigitalShield protect me if I'm hacked?

10. How is DigitalShield differ from other protection plans?
DigitalShield is a custom-made, personalized cyber product that provides insurance against eight major types of cyber risks and also includes access to cyber professionals at your fingertips. With this all-inclusive package, you get more than coverage against financial losses. You'll also have access to industry leaders in cyber security and loss mitigation. DigitalShield is not connected to any other policy, it is a stand-alone insurance product so it doesn't affect any of your other insurance. Any individual can purchase it independently to any other product.
11. Can I call for support even if I don't have a claim?
Yes, we are here to provide full support and customer services, consider this policy as your key to access your own personal cyber concierge through CyberScout: There to help you identify potential problem areas, help you understand how to secure your home network or other wifi connected devices, and avoid cyber risks whenever possible. You can contact CyberScout whenever you have questions about how to better protect your online activity, or just want to check best practices to keep you and your family safe. This includes whether you're seeking insight about your computer, mobile device or smart home technologies at home or when travelling.
12. What is CyberScout?
Your DigitalShield coverage grants you access to world leading cyber security consultations and services through CyberScout. Since 2003, CyberScout has been a leader in protecting businesses, individual, and families against hackers, thieves, and human error. CyberScout helps with cybersecurity education, protection and resolution services and swift multilingual incident response services around the world. They're available on a 24/7 basis in multiple languages.
13. What is the deductible per occurrence?
The deductible is $500.
14. Is the policy used to reimburse out of pocket costs and financial losses or to provide support, guidance and education services, particularly when there is no financial loss?
It can be for both. For example, in the case of ransomware where you must pay for a ransom, there is a financial loss there. We will work with you to determine the best approach and if a ransom must be paid, the ransom cost will be covered.
If there is a situation where someone stole funds from your account, that's a financial loss.
If there is a situation that involves cyberstalking or cyberbullying, although a specific amount of money is not stolen in these cases, there are often various financial losses associated with this type of crime, including the need for psychological services, legal assistance, forensic analysis to aid in prosecution, as well as relocation or other safety requirements which have costs associated with them. Coverage for these costs, additional support, professional services and guidance are included as part of the policy.
15. Does NFP offer access to security programs like Norton Anti-Virus, or VPNs?
No. These types of services are popular in the market, but they are not insurance. DigitalShield is an insurance policy that provides financial compensation and related support and expense coverages to help you recover from, or protect you from cyber crimes.
The policy also grants access to additional support services following a loss, as outlined in the policy wording, these may include access to psychological assistance, reputation damage control, relocation costs, digital forensic analysis, legal fees related to the loss and additional services. DigitalShield policyholders also benefit from the valued added feature of access to proactive customer service and assistance to help guide you in any of your online protection needs or questions. Proactive support services: If you call CyberScout and ask them for tips and advice on how to set yourself up and what to do with any questions related to your activity online, or with your home network. They'll be able to walk you through and make recommendations depending on your situation.
16. Many people use their computers for work and personal use. What happens in a case like that?
This is a personal insurance product, this means that it covers you and the members of your household for personal activity online, personally owned devices and accounts.
Your company will usually handle any breaches that could take place related to your work computer. However, they would not likely cover personal accounts or devices that could be impacted due to a breach.
In these times, we know that there are many people mixing their personal and business use on personal devices. In these cases before an incident happens we encourage DigitalShield clients to reach out to CyberScout and get some counselling and review of their personal vs. work use to best protect your personal devices. Every situation is different, so getting some solid advice and guidance can help ensure you are best protected so that if something does happen in a claim, your DigitalShield policy can cover your personal devices, your home network or other personal losses suffered, including your mobile devices.
It will not cover any business accounts, activity, or devices. Business cyber liability insurance is available to help cover those risks.
