NFP Tax Season: Help Your Personal Finances with McGill's Free Course

February 23, 2021

Tax season is here. For many, it brings with it a desire to get a jump start on their financial outlook for the year ahead.

McGill University, in partnership with RBC Future Launch and The Globe and Mail, has unveiled a free personal finance essentials course for individuals to take charge of their financial situation.

The spring 2021 course, which is open now until April 25, is taught by McGill's Desautels Faculty of Management professors with subjects such as budget building, investing, understanding debt and borrowing, and much more.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced many people to re-evaluate their financial situation and one of NFP's tips for financial wellness is having an emergency fund separate from your savings to lean on in case an unforeseen event takes place. However, it's not always easy to get the ball rolling, and personal finance doesn't stop at having an emergency fund, making a course like McGill's valuable.

All eight modules of the McGill course feature intuitive on-demand videos which breaks down different elements of personal finance. Students have the ability to learn at their own pace and take a test at the end of each module with unlimited re-take attempts to ensure the material is properly understood.

Although completing the course won't count towards McGill credit or a degree, the esteemed Montreal university will provide a Personal Finance Essentials attestation of completion.
