Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a quote?
Connect with an NFP broker to start your personalized quote. We’ll guide you through eligibility, required documentation and policy options, making it simple from start to finish.
What documents do I need to apply?
Typically, you will need photos of your vehicle, a completed application, details on your current driving history and any relevant appraisals (when required).
How many years of driving experience do I need?
Most collector programs require at least 10 years of driving experience. Coverage eligibility in most provinces begins at age 21. Exceptions may apply. Speak with your broker for more information.
What kinds of vehicles qualify for collector car insurance?
A wide range of specialty vehicles are eligible for collector car insurance, including classic and antique cars, modified and custom vehicles, muscle cars, hot rods, collector trucks and SUVs, military vehicles, motorcycles, high-value collections and retired commercial vehicles. We also offer limited marine coverage through select partners.
Do I need to register my car as “antique” to qualify?
Not necessarily. Eligibility is based more on usage, condition and type of vehicle rather than its registration status. Reach out to one of our licensed brokers to confirm.
Can I insure a vehicle that’s under restoration?
Yes, restoration coverage is available. You can opt for comprehensive-only protection while your vehicle is being restored or stored long-term.
Do you insure replicas or kit cars?
Yes, many replicas and kit cars can qualify. These are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may vary depending on the province in which you live.
What is “guaranteed value” coverage?
Guaranteed value (also called agreed value) means you and your broker agree on the insured value of your vehicle. In the event of a covered total loss, you’re paid that full amount — no depreciation, no surprises.
Are there usage restrictions?
Collector vehicle policies are designed for limited pleasure use, weekend drives, car shows, club events or occasional trips. These policies aren’t intended for daily commuting or business use.
Can I choose where my car is repaired?
Yes. You always have the option to select your own repair shop, including specialty or restoration facilities.
Can I choose my deductible?
Yes, various deductible options are available. Your broker can help find the best fit for your needs and budget.
Is roadside assistance included with my policy?
Many of our collector vehicle insurance packages offer 24/7 roadside assistance designed specifically for vintage and collector vehicles, including flatbed towing with soft straps. Ask your broker which package applies.
What if I don’t have a spare tire?
In most cases, roadside service will tow your vehicle to a nearby facility if a spare isn’t available. Parts and labour are not covered unless explicitly stated.
Does the roadside assistance cover my trailer?
Yes, if your policy includes trailer coverage, assistance can extend to vehicles being transported.
How do I file a claim?
You can file a claim by contacting your NFP broker directly or through our carrier partner’s claims centre. We’ll walk you through each step of the process.
Can I track my claim online?
Some of our insurance partners provide online tracking. Your broker can confirm availability based on your policy.
Will filing a claim affect my premium?
It may. Premiums are reviewed annually, and claims history is one of the factors. Ask your broker for more details about your eligibility for no-claims discounts.
What’s the benefit of joining a collector car club or roadside program?
Our carrier partners, such as Hagerty, offer club memberships that include roadside coverage, valuation tools, event access and more. These can provide great value for the enthusiast lifestyle.
Do I need to be a member to get insurance?
No. Club membership is not required to obtain insurance, but it may enhance your ownership experience.
