Canada's energy sector has grown steadily since 2017, producing $57.4 billion in gross domestic product in the first quarter of 2022, according to an Insurance Business Canada report based on numbers from the Canadian Centre for Energy Information.
That's 9.1% of total Canadian GDP, which means energy is big business is Canada and should start telling its own story, NFP Canada's Joceyln Scherer told Insurance Business Canada.
“For too long, the energy sector has let other people tell its story, and that has hurt the industry,” Scherer said. “But I think, for good reason, there’s been a bit of a wake-up call and more acknowledgement that we need to start telling our own story.”
